FAQ and troubleshooting

Answers to common questions and fixes for common issues.

Access and accounts

How do I get access?

CoDev is in public beta, so anyone can create an account with Google, GitHub, or an email and password. If a teammate invites you to a workspace, or a friend sends you their personal invite link, create your account from their invite so they get credit for it.

You don't need it to sign up: anyone can create an account during the beta. Ask for a fresh invite link if you want whoever invited you to get their referral reward.

My invitation was sent to a different address

An invitation sent to an email address belongs to that address. If you sign up with another one, you still get an account, but the invitation stays with the original address. Sign up with that address (with Google or GitHub, use the account whose verified email matches), or ask the sender to invite the address you used.

I didn't get the verification email

Password accounts must verify their email before signing in. Try signing in again to send a new link (up to five an hour), and check your spam folder. The link expires after 24 hours.

Can I change my email address?

Not yourself yet. Email admins@trycodev.com from your current address.

Workspaces

Why did my workspace stop?

Workspaces stop after 10 minutes without activity from members or agents, and they keep their files. They start again on their own when you message the agent or open your files, terminal or browser. See How workspaces run.

My workspace won't start

  • Out of credits: the owner's wallet needs at least $0.05. Add credits in Settings → Billing.
  • Active workspace limit reached: you're running as many workspaces as your plan allows. The owner can choose Switch to this workspace, or wait for another workspace to stop when it goes idle.
  • Couldn't start: open the workspace again to retry. If it keeps failing, click Feedback in the workspace's top bar and tell us.

My tools don't install

Workspaces run ARM64 Linux. Most language toolchains support it, but some prebuilt binaries are x86-only. Look for an arm64 or aarch64 build, or build from source.

I can't create another workspace

You've used your plan's saved workspaces. Delete one you don't need, or change plans. Workspaces shared with you don't count toward your limit. See Credits and plans.

My private repository was refused

On Pay as you go, private repositories arrive as a snapshot of up to 500 files and 3 MiB, without Git history, and larger ones are refused. Pro and higher plans clone private repositories of any size, with their history. See Credits and plans.

Git and GitHub

git push in the terminal doesn't work

That's expected: terminals in a workspace never hold your GitHub token. Push from the Changes tab, or type /push or /pr <title> in the chat, and CoDev pushes for you as you. See Git, GitHub, and pull requests.

My repository doesn't show up when I create a workspace

Give CoDev access to it: Settings → Integrations → Manage repository access, then pick the repository or organization on GitHub.

Agents and billing

Do I need an AI subscription?

No. You can connect your own Claude, ChatGPT (for Codex), or Cursor subscription from a terminal with the CoDev CLI, save your own API key, or turn on Use my CoDev credits for Claude or Codex and pay per use from credits. See Work with AI agents.

Who pays when a teammate uses my workspace?

The owner pays for workspace time. Teammates' agents use their own subscriptions or keys, or their own CoDev credits. They use yours only if you turn on Pay for collaborators' Claude and Codex turns and they choose Use the owner's credits for an agent.

Do credits expire?

Starter and referral credits expire after 30 days. Credits you buy never expire.

Getting help

  • Feedback, at the bottom of the sidebar or in a workspace's top bar (also ⌘ K → Send feedback…): report a bug, suggest an idea, or ask anything in a sentence or two. We attach the page you're on and the workspace ID, never your code, prompts or files.
  • When CoDev notices something fail, a Report prompt opens the same dialog with the failure already filled in; add what you were doing and send it.
  • By email: admins@trycodev.com.
