Roles and permissions

What owners, editors, and viewers can do in a workspace.

Every workspace has one owner. Everyone else is an editor or a viewer. The owner pays for the workspace's time.

Owner

The owner created the workspace, or accepted it in an ownership transfer. Workspace time is charged to the owner's credit wallet, including agent work that keeps running after the owner closes the browser. Ownership only moves when another member accepts an offer; see Transfer ownership.

Editor

Editors can do everything needed to build: run agents, edit files, use terminals, preview the app, and ship with Git. They can delete chats they started, and end terminals they opened. An editor's agents use the editor's own AI account or own CoDev credits, or the owner's CoDev credits if the owner pays for collaborators.

Viewer

Viewers can watch and read: chats, files, changes, reviews, history, and who's online. They see You can view this workspace. Ask an owner for edit access to run agents. instead of a message box, and the editor shows Read only.

Viewers don't see terminals, can't open previews, can't act on agent requests, and don't see other members' email addresses.

Agents follow your permissions

An agent runs as the person who started it and can only do what that person's role allows. How much an agent may do without asking is set by the permission level in the message box; see Work with AI agents.

Rooms

Rooms have their own, simpler roles: an owner and members. See Rooms.
