Invite your team

Share a link or invite by email, pick roles, and build in the same workspace.

Everyone you invite to a workspace joins the same files, terminals, agent chats, and running app. There's nothing to set up on their side beyond a CoDev account, which they can create from your invite.

To have your teammates' agents hear yours on their own computers, without a workspace, add them to your CoDev team instead: see Invite your team in the Quickstart.

Team workspaces

Your workspace home shows your team under Your team: its name and everyone on it. Team owners and admins can choose Invite teammates there; without a team, Create a team names one and invites people.

A team workspace is shared with the whole team: everyone on it is an editor, and people who join the team later get it too. You can still invite people outside the team from Share.

  • Create one: in New workspace, keep your team selected under Who it's for. Only me makes a personal workspace the team doesn't see.
  • Move one: on your workspace home, hover over a personal workspace you own and choose Move to the team. You stay its owner.
  • Find them: the home's Team filter shows your team's workspaces; Personal shows the ones you own outside it, and Shared the ones others invited you to.
  • When someone leaves the team: they lose access to its workspaces, and the ones they own pass to the team's owner. If the owner can't take one over yet (for example, it would go past their plan's workspace limit), leaving stops and says which workspace.

On Pay as you go, the 3-collaborator limit below still applies to a team workspace: once its seats are full, the remaining teammates aren't added.

Open the Share dialog

Choose Share in the workspace's top bar, or type /share in the chat. Owners and editors can invite people; viewers can see who has access.

Invite by email or username

  1. In Email or username, enter a person's email address or CoDev username.
  2. Pick a role: Editor (the default) or Viewer.
  3. Choose Invite.
  • By email: the person gets an email, "Your name" invited you to a CoDev workspace, with a link that works for 7 days. They sign in, or create an account, with that same address. If they create an account with that address another way, the invitation is accepted when they verify it.
  • By username: someone who already has a CoDev account is added right away.
  • From your team: if you're on a CoDev team, teammates who aren't in the workspace yet appear under From your team. Choose a name to add them right away with the role you picked.

After an email invite, the dialog says Invitation sent to the address until you dismiss it. It says the same whether or not that address already has a CoDev account.

Pending invitations appear under People with access as pending, with Revoke. Inviting the same address again replaces the earlier invitation and role. Each member can invite up to 20 people an hour.

Under Anyone with the link, pick a role and choose Copy link. Anyone with the link can join as that role.

  • The link works for 7 days and can be used by a whole group.
  • Opening Share again shows the same link. Changing its role creates a new link and stops the old one.
  • The link also stops working when the owner removes a member or transfers ownership, so a removed person can't use it to rejoin.

When someone opens the link, they see Join "workspace name" and choose Join workspace. If it has expired, they're asked to get a fresh one from whoever shared it.

Collaborator limits

On Pay as you go, a workspace can have up to 3 collaborators, counting pending email invitations. Pro and Teams have no limit. The Share dialog shows how many seats you've used, and the owner is told if someone tried to join a full workspace.

Collaborators don't need a team. Adding someone to your team (under Settings → Team) is different: on Teams, each member takes one of the team's paid seats. See Teams.

Change a role or remove someone

Only the owner can change roles and remove people. In People with access:

  • change a member between Editor and Viewer from the menu next to their name, or
  • open More actions → Remove access… and confirm with Remove access. They lose access right away, the current share link stops working, and their account isn't affected.

See Roles and permissions for exactly what each role can do.

Transfer ownership

The owner can hand a workspace to another member:

  1. In People with access, open the member's More actions → Transfer ownership… and choose Send offer.
  2. The member sees the offer in the Share dialog, with Accept and Decline. It expires after 7 days, and the person who made it can Withdraw it.

When they accept, they become the owner and the previous owner becomes an editor. The workspace's time is then charged to the new owner, and the share link stops working. If the new owner is on Pay as you go, the workspace must fit its 3-collaborator limit first.

See who's here

  • Avatars in the top bar show who's in the workspace, people first, then running agents. Hover to see their role, branch, and what they're doing, such as editing app.ts or reviewing changes.
  • Live cursors show where teammates and agents are editing, with their names.
  • Dots in the file tree show who has a file open, and chats show who's in them and who's typing.

Follow a teammate

Click someone's avatar to follow them: your view goes where they go, inside a colored frame that says Following and their name. Choose Stop or press Esc to stop. Clicking, scrolling, or typing in the workspace stops following too.

Get notified

When you're away from a workspace, CoDev can email you when your agent finishes, your queued message starts, an agent waits for your approval, or someone joins. You get at most one email per workspace every 15 minutes, and none while you're in it. Choose what you get in Settings → Preferences; see Account settings.
