Files, editor, and history

Edit files together live, resolve conflicts, search, and undo any change.

Every file in a workspace is shared. You, your teammates, and your agents edit the same files, see each other's changes as they happen, and can undo any change from History.

The workspace layout

The side panel has five tabs:

TabWhat it shows
FilesThe file tree of the worktree you're in
ChangesFiles changed in this worktree, ready to commit
ReviewThe diff of this worktree's changes, and Merge into main where nothing ships through live main
HistoryEverything that changed, and who changed it
BrowserA preview of your running app

Switch between the Board of worktrees and the editor with the toggle in the top bar.

Files

  • Open a file from the tree, with Go to file (⌘ P), or with /open in the chat.
  • The tree's toolbar creates files and folders, collapses everything, and refreshes the list.
  • Each file's menu has New file, New folder, Rename, Copy path, and Delete. A deleted text file can be restored from History.

Edit together

Open the same file as a teammate and you both edit it live, with each other's named cursors and selections. When an agent edits a file you have open, its changes appear as it writes them, with its own cursor.

Shared files save automatically about a second after you stop typing, and at least every 5 seconds while you keep typing. The editor shows who's editing and whether it's Saving… or Saved; ⌘ S saves right away.

If the workspace goes offline, the editor switches to Offline · read only until it reconnects.

When edits overlap

When a file changes on disk while you're editing it (for example, an agent rewrote it), CoDev merges the newer changes into yours line by line. Only lines that both of you changed are a conflict.

If that happens, the editor says Resolve conflict and offers:

  • Merge, keeping my lines: your version wins on the lines you both changed; every other change is kept.
  • Use workspace version: discard your edits to those lines and take the file as it is.
  • Replace the file with my version…: overwrite the file with yours. CoDev tells you how many lines that discards before you confirm with Replace file.

Whatever you choose resolves the conflict for everyone.

Search in files

Press ⌘ Shift F to search every file in the current worktree. Search matches text on a single line (up to 200 characters) and ignores case unless your search has capital letters. It skips files over 1 MB and shows up to 200 matches.

History

The History tab lists everything that changed in the workspace and who did it:

  • file saves, new files, renames, and deletions,
  • agent turns and the files each one changed,
  • new chats and worktrees, membership changes, and ownership offers,
  • commits, pushes, pull requests, merges, and removed worktrees.

Type in Search history to show only the rows whose text contains that word, such as a file name, a chat title, or who made the change. It searches the rows already loaded; choose Show older to search further back. Press Escape to clear it.

Undo a change

Choose Undo on any row to reverse that change, including a whole agent turn. If someone has since edited the same lines, CoDev asks you to confirm with Undo anyway. Undone rows are marked Undone.

Restore to a point in time

From a row's More actions menu, choose Restore to this point, then Restore, to put the current worktree back the way it was at that moment. Everything since stays in History, so you can undo the restore too. View change shows what a row changed.

Limits

  • Anyone in the workspace can read History; owners and editors can undo and restore, which starts a sleeping workspace first.
  • A member's saves to one file within 5 minutes share a row.
  • Binary files and text over 256 KB are listed but can't be undone.
  • Changes made from a terminal command are not recorded, so they can't be undone from History. Commit often with Git as well.
